In Java Web Services - Essentials Training course, Delegates learn about the role and value of web services in service-oriented architectures (SOA) and the enterprise, in addition to the technologies that are typically used in web services. they learn about the Java programming model for web services (JAX-WS) and the components of web services, including Web Services Description Language (WSDL) documents and SOAP messages. Delegates will also learn to use IBM Rational Application Developer to generate web services, such as creating a web service from existing Java assets.

By attending Java Web Services - Essentials workshop, Delegates will learn to:

  • Identify the core standards that define Java web services
  • Describe real-world scenarios involving web services
  • Describe the need for a platform-independent service contract (WSDL)
  • Describe the need for a platform-independent messaging format (SOAP)
  • Identify the categories of Java EE components that can be enabled as web services
  • Explain the role of the web service generation tools provided by the JAX-WS runtime in IBM WebSphere Application Server
  • Use IBM Rational Application Developer to generate web services from existing Java assets
  • Describe the web services support provided in IBM WebSphere Application Server
  • Test and monitor a web service using the web services explorer in IBM WebSphere Application Server

  • Practical knowledge of the Java programming model.
  • A general understanding of service-oriented architecture and Extensible Markup Language (XML) technologies is also highly recommended.
  • Solid experience in Java Programming, including object-oriented Java and the Java streams model
  • Some experience with Java EE development, especially Web applications using servlets, will be very helpful, but is not mandatory
  • Some understanding of XML and XML Schema is strongly recommended
  • Knowledge of Soap WebServices
  • Good to have knowledge on Restful concepts
